I just had to write to you to heartily thank you.
The poem I wrote which was highly commended by you and your team was the second poem that I’ve written. I am still living with the joy upon hearing the news from you.
I was very nervous yesterday. I had come to your event alone but felt a warmth and kindred support in the room. I apologise as I had to leave early just before 8 and missed out on the rest of your wonderful awards and book launch evening.
I felt seen and heard since emerging from my grief at the loss of my husband. This has given me a lovely incentive to carry on writing poetry. I conquered my fear of wanting to run away and not stand up to read my poem in front of the audience. The reception was empowering and I thank you so very much for facilitating such a blessed evening.

If you ever want a reading, I’d be happy to oblige – free of course. I have a whole collection of anti-colonial/historical poems, properly researched, which pack a punch. And I can, at a pinch, as you know, make a reading-video.
